Fighting for those who Fight for us
The Prime
Minister appointed Bob Walter, on the recommendation of the Leader of the
Opposition, to lead a team of Mps to scrutinise our international defence
commitments. Last year Bob was elected by MPs from across Europe to be President
of the body, the European security and defence assembly.
North Dorset
has strong military traditions with hundreds of servicemen Bob has visited
Afghanistan
several times and met with both NATO commanders and women
stationed at Blandford as well as many more serving and retired personnel
living in the area. Bob has also been closely involved with local tributes to
our brave men and women; he raised the official North
Dorset flag on Armed services Day last year, took part as always in
Remembrance Day services and the “Freedom” ceremony for The Rifles. and
ordinary soldiers who are serving us all. Bob has doubts about the Afghan strategy,
but he has been steadfast in his support for all our young men and women there
and the sacrifices they are making. The defence industry is a major employer in
Dorset with many companies supplying parts for
military equipment around the world. Bob has been a champion of the local
defence industry and the contribution it makes to the local economy.
